Like Mega Man X4, X gets weapons and Zero gets techniques, although Zero does get a few weapons here as well. Note that some of my expansions of the names are currently unofficial and thus why they are in brackets.
X’s Weapons
CRESCENT SHOT Fires a crescent forward but at a random angle. When charged, surrounds X with yellow crescents of energy for a brief time. |
DARK HOLD This is basically the Time Stopper. However you can still fire your cannons or use your saber while this is active, and you can stop the effect early by switching weapons. |
F(IREFLY) LASER Shoots a small firefly projectile; because it is controllable with the directional pad, X can’t move while using this. When charged, fires a continuous laser beam forward for a length of time; X can move around and reposition the beam as necessary. |
GOO SHAVER Fires a small ice shard along the ground. When charged, produces a lot of ice blocks which fall in an arc. |
 | | Uses: ? |
|---|
Obtained From: Burn Dinorex
Characteristics: Multidirectional, Burns
Appears In: MMX5
GROUND FIRE Shoots a fireball downward slightly; when it hits the ground it remains there for a few seconds, shooting fireballs in random directions. A charged shot fires two beams of fire to either side of X. |
SPIKE BALL Shoots a large spiked ball forward (you saw that one coming). When charged, the ball ricochets around the room for a few moments. |
TRI-THUNDER This is the Thunder Beam basically, although the energy gathers into spheres and rolls along walls and floors it strikes. When charged, causes beams to fire from the top of the screen down to the bottom, in random places, similar to the Lightning Bolt. |
WING SPIRAL X makes a little hop and a tornado fires upward. When charged, produces a tornado which travels forward, growing larger as it moves. |
Zero’s Techniques
Note: The manual lists the following techniques in Japanese, but the game uses English translations, so for the sake of clarity and consistency I do as well.
 | | Uses: 0 |
|---|
Also Known As: Mikazukizan
Obtained From: Crescent Grizzly
Motion: Press jump or attack while in the air
Appears In: MMX5
C(RESCENT) SWORD Zero gains a double-jump and his saber swipes in a complete circle when he uses it while in the air. Both of these are exceedingly useful—the double-jump increases his jumping range and the different saber slash increases his in-air attack range. Note: When you slash while in the air, Zero’s saber takes on special damage similar to X’s Crescent Shot weapon. This means anything which is weak against the C-Shot will be weak against the C-Sword as well. |
 | | Uses: ? |
|---|
Also Known As: Messenko
Obtained From: Shining Firefly
Motion: Giga Attack (or select it like a weapon and use the special weapon button)
Similar To: Rakuhouha
Appears In: MMX5
C-FLASHER Basically the Rising Phoenix Crush. This is a special weapon with weapon energy that Zero uses to attack in a fan-shaped shot. Goes through walls. |
 | | Uses: Variable |
|---|
Obtained From: Dark Necrobat
Motion: Special weapon button
Appears In: MMX5
DARK HOLD This is identical to X’s weapon by the same name. |
 | | Uses: 0 |
|---|
Also Known As: Denjin
Obtained From: Volt Kraken
Motion: Press up and attack
Appears In: MMX5
E(LECTRIC) BLADE As its name suggests, Zero swipes upward with a lightning saber. |
 | | Uses: 0 |
|---|
Also Known As: Hisuisho
Obtained From: Tidal Whale
Motion: Dash while in the air
Appears In: MMX5
F(ROST) SPLASHER Zero air-dashes surrounded by a shield of ice. Damages some enemies. Zero can pass harmlessly through most things while executing this move. |
 | | Uses: 0 |
|---|
Obtained From: Burn Dinorex
Motion: Press down while in the air
Appears In: MMX5
QUAKE BLAZER Zero down-thrusts with a flaming saber that produces a small explosion when he lands. |
 | | Uses: ? |
|---|
Also Known As: Sogenmu
Obtained From: Spike Rosered
Motion: Special weapon button
Appears In: MMX5
TWIN DREAM This is used like a normal special weapon. It produces a hologram of Zero which mirrors his motions a short distance in front of him. Note that touching the hologram itself to things will not damage them, but the hologram’s beam saber can inflict damage on things. |
 | | Uses: 0 |
|---|
Also Known As: Shipuu
Obtained From: Spiral Pegasus
Motion: Press attack while dashing
Appears In: MMX5
W(ING) SHREDDER Zero aborts his dash and a holographic clone shoots forward from him, damaging whatever it hits. Somewhat tricky to use. |

ENERGY PELLET The yellow spheres refill your life meter. The small ones only recover a small amount of health, but this can begin to add up. They will also fill your Sub-Tanks if your life meter is full. |

Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
ENERGY CAPSULE These globes are the same as energy pellets except that more energy is refilled. |

WEAPON ENERGY PELLET The colored pellets are weapon energy. They refill your current weapon when picked up. If you aren’t equipped with a weapon or your weapon is full, the energy goes to another weapon that needs it. |

Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
WEAPON ENERGY CAPSULE These are the same as weapon energy pellets except that more energy is refilled. |

Also Known As: Spare Body
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
1-UP Extra lives. If you have one of these when you bite the dust, you’ll be given another chance at the stage. |

HEART TANK This increases the maximum health of the character who picks it up. Effectively these make your energy meter longer. |

Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
SUB-TANK These are permanent containers that can be used to store spare energy and carry it around until it is needed. They are reusable and can be refilled as often as necessary. To fill a Sub-Tank, acquire energy when your energy meter is full, and the energy will go to your tank instead. Tanks which are not completely full may still be used, but they won’t restore much of your energy. A full tank, on the other hand, will always completely refill your health no matter how large your energy meter is. |
WEAPON SUB-TANK This tank operates exactly like a Sub-Tank except it stores weapon energy and refills weapons instead of your life energy. Quite useful particularly when you’re in fortresses or fighting boss battles. |
EX TANK Although it has the appearance of one, this isn’t really a tank at all; it’s an item that gives you 4 extra lives instead of 2 whenever you start or continue. You don’t have to fill it or use it; just possessing it is enough for its effects to take place. |
ANTI-VIRUS GUARD Seems to increase the number of viruses you have to touch to get Virus’d. May also reduce the damage of viruses. I do not recommend giving this to Zero, as he is already invincible to viruses. |
BURST SHOT X can have up to five shots on the screen at once (normally it’s only three). X only. |
BUSTER PLUS Seems to increase the power of the user’s buster/saber. |
HYPER DASH Your character dashes faster. |
JUMPER Your character jumps slightly higher and thus farther. |
QUICK CHARGE X charges up significantly faster with this part. X only, of course, since only X can charge. |
SHOCK BUFFER Preliminary tests seem to indicate this reduces damage, not recoil (as the name suggests). |
SHOT ERASER Zero’s saber turns light pink and can destroy some shots it couldn’t touch normally. (Note: this is unnecessary if you have the black armor.) Zero only. |
SPEED SHOT X’s shots are blue-hued and seem to be slightly faster. |
SPEEDSTER Your character walks faster. Does not seem to affect any other actions (dashing, climbing ladders, etc). |
SUPER RECOVER Should increase the amount of energy you get when you pick up a life or weapon energy capsule. |
ULTIMATE BUSTER No charge time necessary. Every time you hit the fire button you get a fully powered shot. (Note: This affects special weapons as well, if you’re using an armor that can charge special weapons.) X only. |
VIRUS BUSTER You can destroy viruses by shooting/slashing them. |
W-ENERGY SAVER Nearly doubles the number of times you can fire weapons. |
Z-SABER EXTEND Whenever you attack while on the ground, the tip of the saber produces an arc of orange energy; this arc travels farther than the saber, and reaches its farthest point when you do a triple-slash combo. Zero only. |
Z-SABER PLUS Zero’s saber turns a hot pink and seems to inflict more damage. Zero only. |

|---|
Also Known As: Rockman X
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MMXCM, MHX
MEGA MAN X Commonly called simply “X,” this robot was built by Dr. Light for reasons unknown. He fights Mavericks to aid both humans and Reploids, but an inner hatred for violence prevents him from being as good of a Hunter as he could be. |

 | | HP: ? | AT: ? |
|---|
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MMXCM, MHX
ZERO A skilled Maverick Hunter who lets nothing hold him back. After being destroyed and rebuilt, Zero fights with X and the other Hunters full time. |

 | | HP: ? | AT: ? |
|---|
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
SIGMA Sigma is one of the Reploids Dr. Cain built from information gleamed from X himself. After going Maverick, Sigma has apparently determined that the human race is inferior to Reploids and must either be enslaved or killed. Like a persistent bug, he always returns even after he is defeated, usually in a new form, since though his bodies are defeated, apparently his programming continues to live on to cause more damage. |
ALIA A Reploid researcher, Alia helps the Maverick Hunters by being their spotter and giving information to them on the field. |
SIGNAS The general of the Maverick Hunters. His personality is one of command authority. |
DOUGLAS The mechanic of the group who makes Parts for X and Zero. |
DYNAMO This mysterious mercenary has questionable goals and seems to enjoy fighting. |
LIFESAVOR Lifesavor has been working on anti-virus routines, and is suspicious of Zero’s reaction to viruses. |

Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
DR. THOMAS LIGHT The creator of X who manifests only as holograms in capsules. His capsules give X upgrades for his struggles ahead. |
BURN DINOREX This dinosaur-like robot attacks with fire from multiple vantage points. Although tricky to use, you can knock him into the air with the Wing Spiral or W-Shredder. |
CRESCENT GRIZZLY Despite his size this guy is a pushover. When he is standing still, stand in the indentation in the floor next to him and fire away. If Grizzly is on the move, he will try to attack where you are at the moment, so if you keep moving, he won’t hit you. What attack he performs depends on where you are in the room when he executes it, so you can even guide his moves if you wish. Use the Spike Ball or Twin Dream to really mess him up. |
DARK NECROBAT Something like Shade Man with a few screws loose. Necrobat will attack with hordes of the minor bat robots you see during stages, but generally they are pretty easy to get rid of. You can temporarily blind him by hitting him with an F-Laser or the C-Flasher. |
SHINING HOTARUNIUS (FIREFLY) The Firefly blinks around his room and also fires his Firefly pods and lasers at you. The pod can be destroyed and the laser can be ducked or dodged (depending on whether it is horizontal or vertical). The easiest way to eliminate him is to use an electrical weapon. |
SPIKE ROSERED Like Gemini Man and Split Mushroom, Rosered can double himself. You must strike the real version to get the fake to go away. Hitting him with a fire-based weapon will shake him up and interrupt most of his attacks. |

SPIRAL PEGACION (PEGASUS) He fights much like Tengu Man or Storm Eagle, making diving attacks and throwing tornados at you. The Dark Hold will put a stop to him for the brief time that it lasts, so you’d better be quick about taking advantage of the opportunity. |
TIDAL MAKKOEEN (WHALE) This guy has a rather unique battle pattern. For most of the fight he creates platforms out of ice which you must navigate (or risk getting crushed or speared on spikes). He also fires missiles and shards of ice which travel along the ground. If you hit him with the C-Shot/C-Sword you can interrupt nearly all of his attacks. |
VOLT KRAKEN A kraken is squid-like beast with many arms, and thus so is Volt Kraken. His room has a lot of height to it, and his weapons travel along the floor and walls. Sometimes a platform will appear in the center of the room but it is not always safe as occasionally it is electrified. Hit Kraken with an ice weapon to be rid of him quickly. |
