You’ve probably seen it by now, but Capcom did some live streaming during Comic-Con. There was some Legends 3 information included in at least one of the chats, so I took the liberty of transcribing the relevant parts for people who can’t or don’t wish to watch the video. Remember you can find the original source over on Capcom-Unity.

Snow: The question keeps popping up, so I’m gonna make you address it.
Sven: Yep. I actually thought that would be the first one you brought up.
Snow: I should’ve brought it up first, but...obviously, with Mega Man Legends, a lot of fans there are asking, “What can we do to bring it back? Is there any hope?”
Sven: I would say in the near term, there is not, unfortunately. The decision was not made lightly. Certainly we knew there would be a lot of upset people, and...in spite of that, we still had to make that decision.
Snow: Yeah.
Sven: That doesn’t mean we don’t care about you at all, it’s... I unfortunately can’t get into the details of it, but it was not a decision that was made lightly, and I can tell you that no one is happy about that decision. But it was a decision that had to be made.
Snow: Yeah.
Sven: The best thing that I can do is express my sympathy and empathy for the fans who are disappointed. Especially those that contributed so much to the DevRoom, and really gave themselves in that process. Does that mean that there will never ever ever be a Legends 3? Never ever is a very long time. We’ll see...but it won’t be this project, unfortunately. And by and large, I unfortunately have to stand by the official comments that we’ve made on that, and as much as I would like to shed more light, I just can’t. And I’m sorry about that, guys, I genuinely am.
Snow: It is a sad time.
Sven: Yeah.
[17:35]
Snow: This question keeps coming up in light of that, then, what you’re talking about: “Is Mega Man dead?”
Sven: Oh, absolutely not. The frustrating thing for me is, I have nothing that I can hold up and say “Oh, here’s this other Mega Man thing. Absolutely, we have other things...” Mega Man is a very important brand to Capcom. There is no way shape or form... We get questions, “Are you guys trying to kill the brand?” No, absolutely not. It will continue to be a very important brand for us. I wish I had something I could hold up and display for you that that’s the case; I don’t right now, but...super, super important to us. I do want to express that.
[32:30]
Snow: So, someone brought up a point here that I think works in general for any game. They’re talking about Legends specifically, but they’re asking if there is a certain amount of fans who voice their desire for a Mega Man Legends game, are going to help sway us, either way? I guess this could apply to a lot of games. To me, this is a question that we get a lot just for different games all the way through. And also for games that not necessarily have been canceled, but also games that people just want to see revived or revisited.
Sven: Obviously, the interest of fans drives a lot of our decision-making. It doesn’t drive all of our decision-making, and there are other issues surrounding...resource needs, elsewhere, from a development standpoint, that drive a lot of our decision-making. The thing that people sort of forget is that they think that we have unlimited resources, and that we could be creating every game that everybody wants all at one time, and the reality is that we can’t, unfortunately. So to some degree, given a long enough time horizon, we may at some point get to everything everybody ever wants...but at the same time, we have to be creating new stuff like Dragon’s Dogma and Asura’s Wrath to make sure that we have fans asking for more sequels for those games downstream too. So we can’t ever just be doing sequels and expansions.
Snow: The new IP is definitely important.
Sven: New IP is critical to our business. I think if anything, for years and years people asked us for a sequel to Marvel. For years and years people asked us for a sequel to Street Fighter III. For years and years people asked us for a sequel to Bionic Commando. And these things happened. But it took time, and it took the right time for it to happen. Eventually, some people will get their wishes for what they want...eventually. But I can’t tell you when, or how that will be.
[END TRANSCRIPT]
So, you can see it’s pretty much echoing what I’ve been saying, but with more authority. Not exactly what we wanted to hear, but...not entirely surprising, either.
